Furniture is the part of an estate that defeats people. It is heavy, the market for it is uneven, and the difference between a walnut armoire worth real money and a similar-looking reproduction is not obvious until someone opens a drawer and looks at how the joints were cut.
We come to the property, because photographs hide exactly the details that decide value: dovetails, secondary woods, original hardware, the shrinkage that tells you a top is one board rather than veneer over composite. Period American and Continental case pieces, dining suites and mid-century designs all have active markets. Some late-Victorian pieces, honestly, do not — and we say so rather than quietly bundling them into a low overall figure.
